BRIAN ZUMBANO

Brian Zumbano has worked in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years, including 13 years in higher education advancement. After nearly five years at UC San Diego, he joined San Diego Foundation in 2018, where he serves as Chief Development Officer and Chief of Staff. In these roles, Brian leads San Diego Foundation’s fundraising efforts and oversees key operational functions, including human resources, information technology, and operations.

Before moving to San Diego in 2013, Brian held fundraising roles at Columbia University Medical Center and New York University, building deep experience in philanthropic strategy and donor engagement across major institutions.

Brian spent nine years on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) San Diego Chapter, including two years as board president. While in New York City, he also served on the Board of Directors for New Destiny Housing Corporation, which provides permanent housing for survivors of domestic abuse.

Brian earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and holds a master’s degree in history from New York University, as well as a master’s degree in communications from Columbia University.

Brian lives in Carlsbad with his wife and their two children. Outside of work, he loves to cook — meal prepping for the week and making “Sunday dinner” for his family — and enjoys hiking and traveling.
